Acquaintance with the characters of the fairy tale and the musical instruments depicting them by S. Prokofiev “Peter and the Wolf”

(1 slide) We present to your attention an interactive guide to listening to the symphony fairy tales for children« Petya and the wolf» .

The wonderful Russian composer S.S. Prokofiev composed a musical fairy tale, in which he introduces children to instruments symphony orchestra. Every musical instrument in a fairy tale characterizes a certain character, so it’s easier to feel the expressive capabilities of each tool. I would like to note that the composer found the timbres musical instruments, which are similar to the voices of his heroes. IN fairy tale music conveys not only the timbre of the voice, but also depicts movement, manner of gait. Conveying the manner of movement, the composer uses fairy tale march, but the characters of these marches are different.

(2 slide) You see the boy is a pioneer Peter. Petya's melody is carefree, friendly, and cheerful. It starts with this melody fairy tale. His character is brave, resourceful and kind. Petya depict string instruments.

Petya's theme is cheerful, his gait is bouncing, light, and fast.

(3 slide) The bird is busy, nimble, nimble. The bird's melody is fast, nimble, sometimes light, fluttering, abrupt, sometimes more smooth, fussy, flying. Birdie depicts a flute. The sound of the flute is bright, light, high. The voices of the bird and the flute are very similar. The melody of the bird flute always sounds when talking about a bird. The bird flutters quickly, carefree and cheerfully.

(4 slide) Duck - its melody is slow, unhurried. The duck waddles around awkwardly. Music depicts this gait is leisurely, important, the duck’s melody is played by the oboe. He has a slightly nasal voice and depicts The duck's quack is very similar. The duck's melody always sounds when it is mentioned in fairy tale. The duck moves slowly, awkwardly, waddling from side to side. The trilobed size emphasizes clumsiness, depicts falling in a duck's gait, first on one leg, then on the other.

(5 slide) Cat, the melody of an insidious, cunning cat is played by a clarinet. This tool has great potential. It is very mobile, with different timbre colors. A sneaking cat, ready to rush after its prey at any moment, he depicts low, insinuating, cautious, abrupt sounds with sudden accents. The cat sneaks around unnoticed on its velvet paws and is always on the alert. Stops in the melody (steps and looks around) emphasizes her cautious nature. The cat moves stealthily, carefully, deftly.

(6 slide) old grandfather portrays a strict, leisurely, grumbling melody, grandfather walks with difficulty. AND the music is slow, conveys his heavy gait, the grandfather’s voice is low. The melody is played by a bassoon: lowest woodwind tool. Grandfather's theme is also a march, but heavy, angry, stern, slow.

(7 slide) The wolf is represented by three horns. Their voices form chords - ugly, harsh, grinding, hoarse. Subject the wolf is frighteningly menacing, But the wolf let himself be caught, but how - by the tail, and to whom - an unarmed boy and a brave bird. This makes him in fairy tale not so scary, but rather unlucky and funny. Subject wolfalso a bit like a march: she conveys his menacing steps.

(8 slide) Every hero fairy tales have their own melody, which always sounds when he appears, such a melody - a recognizable portrait - is called a leitmotif. Now the leitmotifs of Cats, Ducks and Wolf.

(9 slide) And now Petya’s leitmotifs will sound, The wolf and the birds, the nature of the melody changes due to the plot fairy tales, but he is always recognizable.

(10 slide) Hunters are portrayed as stupid in fairy tales(they were following the tracks wolf and fired in vain from their guns, depict percussion instruments - timpani, drums. Hunters also appear in fairy tale to the march, but this march is playful, springy, with unexpected accents, sharp, bouncing. The hunters walk with a dashing gait, now cautiously, now flaunting their courage, which they never had time to demonstrate. There are playful embellishments in the melody, and jumping, scattered chords in the accompaniment. At the end of the hunters' march, their threatening and useless gunfire is heard.

(11 slide) Ends fairy tale a solemn procession of all heroes.

(12 slide) Wolf in the zoo is not so scary, but rather unlucky and funny.

(13 slide) Thus, in a playful way using a musical fairy tale can introduce children to instruments symphony orchestra.

Petya and the wolf. Author's preface to the score Each character in this tale is depicted in the orchestra with his own instrument: the bird - with a flute, the duck - with an oboe, the cat - with a staccato clarinet in a low register, the grandfather - with a bassoon, the wolf - with three horns (chords), Petya - with a string quartet, shots of hunters - timpani and bass drum. Before an orchestral performance, it is advisable to show these instruments to children and play leitmotifs on them. Thus, during performance, children learn to recognize a whole range of orchestral instruments without any effort. -"-"- Early in the morning, pioneer Petya opened the gate and walked out onto a large green lawn. A bird familiar to Petya was sitting on a high tree. “Everything is calm,” she chirped cheerfully. Following Petya, a duck appeared, waddling from side to side. She was glad that Petya did not close the gate, and decided to swim in a deep puddle on the lawn. Seeing the duck, the bird flew to the grass, sat down next to the duck and shrugged: “What kind of bird are you if you don’t know how to fly!” - she said. To which the duck replied: “What kind of bird are you if you don’t know how to swim!” and fell into a puddle. They argued for a long time - a duck swimming in a puddle, a bird jumping along the shore. Suddenly Petya became wary. He noticed a cat sneaking through the grass. The cat thought: “Is the bird busy arguing? Now I’ll grab it.” And silently, on velvet paws, she approached her. "Look out!" - Petya shouted, and the bird immediately flew up into the tree. And the duck, from the middle of his puddle, quacked angrily at the cat. The cat walked around the tree and thought: “Is it worth climbing so high? By the time you get in, the bird will still fly away.” Grandfather came out. He was angry that Petya went out the gate. Dangerous places. If a wolf comes from the forest, what then? Petya did not attach any importance to his grandfather’s words and stated that the pioneers were not afraid of wolves. But grandfather took Petya by the hand, took him home and tightly locked the gate. And indeed, before Petya had time to leave, a huge gray wolf appeared from the forest. The cat quickly climbed the tree. The duck quacked and rushed out of the puddle. But no matter how hard she tried, the wolf ran faster. Here he is closer... closer... now he caught up with her... grabbed her... and swallowed her. Now the picture was like this: the cat was sitting on one branch, the bird on the other... away from the cat. And the wolf walked around the tree and looked at them with greedy eyes. Meanwhile, the pioneer Petya, who remained standing behind the locked gate and saw everything that was happening, was not at all afraid. He ran home, took a thick rope and climbed onto a high stone fence. One of the branches of the tree around which the wolf walked extended to this fence. And, grabbing onto it, Petya deftly climbed onto the tree. Petya said to the bird: “Fly down and circle around the wolf’s face, just be careful so that he doesn’t grab you.” The bird almost touched the wolf's muzzle with its wings, and the wolf angrily jumped after it in all directions. Oh, how the bird annoyed the wolf! How he wanted to grab her! But the bird was clever, and the wolf could not do anything with it. Petya, having made a loop in the rope, carefully lowered it down, threw it over the wolf’s tail and tightened it. The wolf felt that he was caught and began to jump in a rage, trying to escape. But Petya tied the other end of the rope to a tree. The wolf's jumps only tightened the noose on his tail. At this time... hunters appeared from the forest. They followed the wolf's tracks and fired their guns. But Petya said from the tree: “You shouldn’t shoot, the bird and I have already caught the wolf!” Help me take him to the zoological garden.” And so... Imagine a solemn procession: Petya walked ahead. The hunters led the wolf after him. Grandfather walked behind with a cat. Grandfather shook his head with displeasure: “Well, what if Petya hadn’t caught the wolf? What then? A bird flew overhead and chirped cheerfully: “That’s what Petya and I are like!” That's who we caught! And if you listen carefully, you could hear a duck quack in the wolf’s stomach, because the wolf was in such a hurry that he swallowed it alive.

During the classes

Musical director:Sergei Sergeevich Prokofiev is a great Soviet composer. In the figurative world of S. S. Prokofiev, a sharp, stern Scythian, a cheerful joker, a jester, a gentle lyricist, a passionate romantic rebel, and a strict classic coexist easily and harmoniously. From birth, he heard classical works performed by his mother - Beethoven's sonatas, Chopin's preludes and mazurkas, works by Liszt and Tchaikovsky. Therefore, Prokofiev began composing music from childhood, and at the age of 5 he composed a piano piece called “Indian Gallop.”

S. S. Prokofiev wrote many wonderful works for children: piano pieces for beginning pianists, a collection called “Children’s Music,” songs with lyrics by L. Kvitko and A. Barto, as well as the symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” based on his own text. He dedicated a large number of works to children, as he loved them very much.

Musical director:Now let's imagine that we are in a concert hall. We listen to the tale of S.S. Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" for reader and symphony orchestra, the composer's words are read by Natalya Ilyinichna Sats, the founder of the world's first Children's Musical Theater. The conductor of the orchestra is Evgeny Svetlanov.

What is the story about in the symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf”?

Student Sveta K. The symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” tells about a brave boy (pioneer) Pete, who defeated the wolf and saved a small bird and a duck.

Student Ruslan A. In S. Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf,” the musical themes of the characters are performed by instruments of a symphony orchestra, the plot is told to the listeners by the narrator (the composer’s words are read by Natalya Ilyinichna Sats), and the musical characteristics are played by various musical instruments of the orchestra.

Musical director:What instruments did the composer choose for the musical themes of his colorful characters? (Listening to music). The symphony orchestra is divided into groups of instruments (bowed, woodwind, brass, percussion).

Student Nastya T. S. S. Prokofiev used woodwind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon) and brass instruments (horn) in the tale. Each musical instrument of a symphony orchestra, thanks to its timbre (color of sound), depicts its own hero. The following poem talks about this:

From a swamp overgrown with duckweed,

From the fields, from the forest hollow

A melodious fairy tale

I went down the musical paths.

To the plank house, under the trees,

The path will lead you

They'll talk about Pete and the wolf

Quartet and clarinet and bassoon.

Magic doors – pages

The composer made the fairy tale characters “speak” in the language of different musical instruments. After all, each instrument has its own voice-timbre.

Student Ruslan A. S.S. Prokofiev “humanizes” the animals in his fairy tale: they speak “humanly” with Petya and with each other, so their music always has expressive intonations, as if they were people; and figurative intonations: the bird chirps, its role is played by the flute. Why did the composer choose the flute to play the role of the bird? By timbre! The bird is small and light, characterized by high-pitched “chirping” flute sounds.

Student Katya G. The cat is cunning and cautious, sneaking on soft paws, it is depicted by the abrupt sounds of a clarinet.

Student Roma V. Wolf - clattering teeth, the character of a dire wolf is depicted by three horns. (Translated from German - forest horn). Sharp sounds characterize a predator.

Student Alina V. The duck quacks, its leisurely waddling gait is best characterized by a “nasal” oboe.

Student Guzel B. Grandfather - his grumpy, angry character is characterized by the low sounds of the bassoon.

Student Emil F . The hunters - their careful steps (not to scare the Wolf!) pass four instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon. And the shots of militant hunters are cymbals and a big drum.

Student Elina Zh. Petya is the main character of the fairy tale. Its musical theme resembles a song, a dance, and a march. This is no accident. After all, Petya is a boy, just like all children, he plays, has fun, dances and sings. Petit's melody is performed by two violins, viola violin and cello. In the “final procession” at the end of the fairy tale, it becomes clear that Petya is the hero, he and his friends caught the evil wolf: the music sounds solemnly, at the tempo of a march.

Musical director.Music helps us understand the actions of the heroes of a fairy tale, feel the good and evil in their actions. Prokofiev himself joked that if you listen to the music carefully, you can hear the Duck quack in the Wolf’s stomach, because the Wolf was in such a hurry that he swallowed her alive.

STORY-ROLE-PLAYING GAME “PETER AND HIS FRIENDS”

Musical director:Today we will tell you a fairy tale. This is not a simple fairy tale - a symphonic, musical one. Music and symphonic instruments will help us with this. So first let's imagine ourselves as musicians of a symphony orchestra.

Physical education lesson “Musicians”.

We are musicians today (bows with head)

We are orchestra players today(adjust the butterfly by turning your head)

Now let's stretch our fingers(we stretch our fingers)

Let's start playing together (rub your palms)

The piano began to play(we show fingers playing the piano from side to side)

The drums are beating(imitate playing the drum)

Violin - left (playing the violin on the left hand)

Violin - right(playing the violin on the right hand)

The audience clapped (clap)

Shouted “Bravo!”(raise your arms above your head)

Musical director:So here we go.

Each fairy tale hero has his own musical theme and his own instrument with a specific “voice”.

Each hero of a fairy tale has a “leitmotif”, a melody that expresses his character, gait, and voice intonations.

With their help, we will play a fairy tale, embody its characters, and tell this musical story.

Petya is the main character of the fairy tale.Let's listen to Petya's theme.

Questions:

What is Petya's character like? What does the music represent? What intonations did we hear in this melody? What instruments perform the main character's theme?

Answers: Petya is a cheerful, joyful, mischievous boy. He's in a good mood, maybe he's even humming something. And Petya walks cheerfully, confidently.

This theme is written in the march genre. The main theme is carried out by violins, they have a ringing, high, bright sound, it conveys both the mood and the character of the main character - confident and courageous. Well, the violins are supported by violas, cellos and double basses, all string instruments that make up the most important group of instruments in a symphony orchestra.

The music director invites the boys to portray Petya, conveying the character and mood of the main character of the fairy tale.

Musical director: Petya came to rest for the holidays with Grandfather. Let's remember the Grandfather theme. He is angry and strict. In the melody you can hear him walking and scolding Petya. The grandfather is dissatisfied with the behavior of his grandson. He is concerned that Petya went behind the gate and did not close it behind him. “...Dangerous places. What if a wolf comes from the forest? What then? We hear grumbling intonations in his melody. And the timbre of the bassoon - low, grumbling, hoarse - very accurately conveys these intonations and the mood of Grandfather.

The music director invites the boys to portray Grandfather.

You can invite the children to determine which of the boys managed to most accurately embody the musical image.

Musical director: Who do you think this theme song represents? (Listening to the Bird's Theme).

This is a bird. Its theme is performed by a flute. The melody sounds in a high register, there are many trills in it, it is fast and whimsical. You can imagine how a bird flies, flutters, flaps its wings, and sings its songs.

Questions: What is Birdie's mood? What group of instruments does the flute belong to?

Children's dance creativity.

Well, now a bird’s friend has appeared in our hall - a duck. She is important and stupid, she waddles, slowly, and quacks. The theme of the duck sounds, the children convey the features of the musical image in their movements.

Musical director: And you will show this character with gestures.

The melody sounds cautious, quiet, insinuating. The cat has a cunning, cautious character, she is a real hunter. And conveys all these intonations(children's answers) – clarinet . Children's dance creativity.

Physical education minute.

Now it's time to stretch our tired muscles the way a cat does.

The cat sat down on the window,

I began to wash my ears with my paw,

and we will also be able to repeat the movements behind the cat.

Musical director: Well done! Yours looks very similar.

But then a wolf appears, we hear the threatening sound of horns. The wolf is careful and cunning. He growls - we hear the horns “roar”, he sneaks - we hear their quiet, cautious sound.

Children's dance creativity.

But then the hunters appeared. We hear them firing their guns.“Shots” of drums and timpani sound. Children imitate “shots” with movements.

But, as we know, Petya, with the help of a small but very brave bird, dealt with the wolf, and it all ended with the solemn procession of all the heroes and hunters to the zoo. Everyone is very cheerful and proud of their victory. Let us also become participants in this procession.

Final procession. Children portray fairy tale heroes.

All the heroes of the fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” appear on the screen.

Musical director:Guys! Today we are once again convinced that music is capable of creating real miracles. She can draw pictures and create images. And, really...

What can be compared to music in sound?

Noise of the forest? The singing of a nightingale?

Are there thunderstorms? Is the brook babbling?

I can't find any comparisons.

But whenever there is confusion in the soul, -

Love or sadness, fun or sadness.

In any mood given by nature,

Suddenly music starts to sound.

It sounds in the soul, on the strings of the subconscious,

Thunders the timpani and beats the cymbals, -

Conveying joy or suffering -

The soul itself seems to sing!

Summing up the lesson

In the first lessons, students became acquainted with the musical characteristics of the characters in the fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf” - themes performed by various instruments of the symphony orchestra. The final lesson topic: “Development of music.” The children continued their acquaintance with S. S. Prokofiev’s musical fairy tale. Here a more complex task was posed - to trace how the collision of different intonations helps the composer to more clearly reveal the content of the work. The children were asked to follow the development of music in S. S. Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy tale, based on their understanding of what “intonation” is. The children listened carefully to the main episodes of Petya’s music (theme), from the beginning of Prokofiev’s fairy tale, where the mood is calm, cheerful, cheerful, not foreshadowing any serious events, to the final, general procession-march that grew out of Petya’s melody (theme).

Students learned to identify, understand the characteristics and actions of the heroes of S.S.’s fairy tale. Prokofiev, through their musical themes, through the timbres of the instruments that the composer chose to characterize fairy-tale characters. Name the musical instruments that perform them.

Musical director:

Hello guys! Today we will talk about music again.

People have been listening to music for a long time. It pleases, calms, warms the soul, makes a person kinder and better.

People are drawn to beauty, and music is beautiful. It turns out that even ancient man could not live without music. This is evidenced by archaeological excavations of ancient settlements.

Among the dishes and weapons with which ancient man hunted and obtained food, the first musical instruments were found. These were animal bones with hollowed-out holes, shells, and various pipes.

Slide number 3

People noticed that the seeds in dried fruits made knocking, rustling sounds, and began to make percussion musical instruments themselves: rattles made from dried fruits with seeds or pebbles inside, as well as various beaters, rattles, and later drums.

Slide number 4

While hunting and pulling the bowstring, a man noticed that it made a melodic sound. People began to make musical instruments with strings -

Slide number 5

Lyres, harps, and later – harps, violins, cellos.

Fairy-tale music “introduction to a visit to a fairy tale” sounds, 3 girls run into the hall. They gathered to write a letter to Santa Claus.

Natalya Letnikova collected 10 facts about the musical work and its creator.

1. Musical history appeared with the light hand of Natalia Sats. The head of the Children's Musical Theater asked Sergei Prokofiev to write a musical story told by a symphony orchestra. So that children do not get lost in the wilds of classical music, there is an explanatory text - also by Sergei Prokofiev.

2. Violin melody in the spirit of a pioneer march. The boy Petya meets almost the entire symphony orchestra: a bird - a flute, a duck - an oboe, a cat - a clarinet, a wolf - three horns. The shots sound like a big drum. And the grumbling bassoon acts as a grandfather. Simply brilliant. Animals speak with musical voices.

3. "Fascinating content and unexpected events." From concept to implementation - four days of work. It took Prokofiev exactly that long for the story to begin to sound. The fairy tale became just an excuse. While children follow the plot, willy-nilly they will learn the names of the instruments and their sounds. Associations help you remember this.

“Each character in the fairy tale had his own leitmotif, assigned to the same instrument: the duck was represented by the oboe, the grandfather by the bassoon, etc. Before the start of the performance, the instruments were shown to the children and the themes were played on them: during the performance, the children heard the themes many times and learned to recognize the timbre instruments - this is the pedagogical meaning of the fairy tale. What was important to me was not the fairy tale itself, but that the children listened to music, for which the fairy tale was only an excuse.”

Sergei Prokofiev

4. The first multi-incarnation. “Peter and the Wolf” was filmed by Walt Disney in 1946. The score of the yet unpublished work was given to the cartoon magnate by the composer himself during a personal meeting. Disney was so impressed by Prokofiev's creation that he decided to draw the story. As a result, the cartoon was included in the studio's golden collection.

5. "Oscar"! In 2008, the short film “Peter and the Wolf” by an international team from Poland, Norway and Britain received the Academy Award for best animated short film. The animators did without words - only pictures and music performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

6. Petya, the duck, the cat and other characters in the symphonic fairy tale became the best instruments in the world. The musical story was performed by the USSR State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov and Gennady Rozhdestvensky, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of New York, Vienna and London.

7. Petya and the wolf on pointe shoes. A one-act ballet based on Prokofiev’s work was staged in the mid-twentieth century at a branch of the Bolshoi Theater - the current Operetta Theater. The performance did not catch on - it was performed only nine times. One of the most famous foreign productions was the performance of the British Royal Ballet School. The main parts were danced by children.

8. The 40th anniversary of the symphonic fairy tale was celebrated with a rock version. Famous rock musicians, including Genesis singer Phil Collins and the father of ambient music, Brian Eno, organized a production of the rock opera Peter and the Wolf in the UK. The project featured virtuoso guitarist Gary Moore and jazz violinist Stefan Grappelli.

9. Voice-over from "Peter and the Wolf". Only recognizable timbres: the first performer was the world's first woman - opera director Natalia Sats. The list includes Oscar-winning English actors of knighthood: John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, Peter Ustinov and Ben Kingsley. Hollywood film star Sharon Stone also spoke on behalf of the author.

“Sergei Sergeevich and I fantasized about possible plots: I - with words, he - with music. Yes, it will be a fairy tale, the main goal of which is to introduce younger schoolchildren to musical instruments; it should have fascinating content, unexpected events, so that the children listen with continuous interest: what will happen next? We decided this: we need the fairy tale to have characters who can clearly express the sound of a particular musical instrument.”

Natalia Sats

10. 2004 - Grammy Award in the category “Children's Album in the Spoken Genre.” The highest American music award was taken by politicians of two superpowers - former USSR Presidents Mikhail Gorbachev and US Bill Clinton, as well as Italian film star Sophia Loren. The second fairy tale on the disc is the work of French composer Jean Pascal Beintus. Classic and modern. The challenge, as it was decades ago, is to make music understandable to children.
