She captivates everyone around her with her charm, kindness and sincere belief in the miracle called the Circus. Sora feels "Kaleido" like a living being - it is impossible to forget how she cries, trying to stop the fight: “The arena hurts! How can you not understand?! "; how she screams in grief - not because of herself, but because of her older friend, who will have to leave the circus after an injury. And we, together with Sora, are looking for the right path, making mistakes, doubting, losing and again finding our dream and our path. It’s a rare example for “girly” anime when a spiritual quest is no less important and interesting than the plot itself, and is inextricably linked with it.
Circus “Kaleido Star” (“Motley Arena” as translated by Russian fansubbers) is a small “world in itself”, with its joys and sorrows. It's impossible not to fall in love with him. Circus girls are not dystrophic models. Beautiful, slender, strong... Their eyes light up with delight not from fashionable rags, but from the shells for a new act, which for the uninitiated look more like instruments of torture. Circus romance, unrealistically beautiful and incredibly complex numbers. And let the heroes improve their skills incredibly quickly; Yes, of course, it’s simply impossible to stage a show of this level in two weeks, but this is a fairy tale, after all! But the intensity of passions is not at all fabulous, but quite real. Life confronts the film’s characters, each of whom has their own difficult story, with serious questions and difficult trials. When a partner, whom he trusted as himself, betrays him, it is painful and scary. A former friend with a smile says that you must perform a deadly act in the arena, and you know that it will kill you - after all, it is impossible to prepare in such a short time. But you need to find the strength to train so as not to let your comrades down. And behind the backs of the heroes of the series, the characters of the “second cast” - the deceased artists - stand as invisible shadows - understanding, loving, helping. It must be said that despite all the “internal” seriousness, “Kaleido Star” is a very funny series, with many jokes and funny situations, colorful and bright. And very, very beautiful – as befits a film about a circus!
The plot is full of surprises, and the heroes are not always lucky. You involuntarily begin to empathize - can they? Will it work? And this feeling of belonging, hope and self-confidence is the best thing that the creators of the series give us.

Of course, it is not perfect, there were some problems. And sometimes it infuriated me and plunged me into a stupor... After the 30th episode, I almost despaired that the plot would go downhill. But... Doubts gradually dissipated and the plot began to gain momentum and at the very end reached its climax.
Of course, anime is a little idealistic, just like GG. But I was glad to plunge into this fairy tale and empathize with all its heroes.
Exactly - to empathize! Do not indulge in sarcasm and dwell on the disadvantages of this anime, but empathize with the characters and other characters in this story. I even cried several times and my stomach hurt, I was so worried about Sora.
In general, I am also connected with the scene and I too, in some way, am now overcome by doubts, just like GG, and maybe that’s why this anime affected me so much. The days when I watched this anime, I often spun around the apartment, imagining myself in the arena, and even decided to take my stretching and training more seriously. I think if I watched this anime as a child, I would probably run to the circus to study gymnastics and trapeze.
After watching it, I started looking for videos of gymnasts and circus shows, although I had never been particularly interested in this before. I’m even thinking of going to some performance.

Well, who among us did not watch or read fairy tales as a child? I think that it is almost impossible to find such people, because from them we learned what is good and what is bad, we learned all the best and brightest things possible. What do you say if you add tragedy and charisma to a good fairy tale? This is exactly what this title represents. Each episode contains instructive messages, showing that you shouldn’t give up halfway and how important it is to love what you do. The characters may be caricatured in places, but you really empathize with them, you can even feel the full depth of their emotions. What I especially praise this title for is the main character - a very kind and purposeful, and most importantly not stupid girl, with her own charisma and charm. The drawing, although old, is quite good (retro lovers will especially like it), although in some places the relationship between the eyes and the face was frightening. The music is average, but still sets the tone.
This title will appeal to all fans of good old anime.
I give it 8/10 and recommend watching it.
It's hard to find anime like this, especially among those that are being made nowadays, and by these words I mean a lot. There are many anime about sports, there are many anime of the slice-of-life genre, but Kaleido Star cannot be classified as one of them, it is about the life of the circus, but does not immerse you in everyday life, as it might seem from the brief description. It is about peculiar adventures, it is about hopes, it is about experiences, it is about the accomplishments of the main character and other characters in the scene - who share a place that has become something very familiar to the heroine, or who simply intersect with her.
The original Kaleido Star itself can be divided into 2 parts, from the 1st to the 26th series and from the 29th to the 51st. And despite a certain turning point in the second part, where it seems that the continuation is out of place, and that the heroine’s life has changed so much and there has been an attenuation, where new participants will appear, and this will be a story about them, in the end you understand how harmoniously connected everything is, and how powerful this anime is - which so skillfully unites everything that happened in the life of Sora and all the other close participants and friends in the scene, showing the second climax and second completion of this picture.
