People like different films: westerns, comedies, thrillers, actions, romantic stories. As for me, my favourite film is Avatar. The story impressed me very much. It is a fantastic film about another world. It isn’t like any other film I’ve ever seen.
A world-known James Cameron directed this amazing tale. He has been working on it for ten years. The main actor’s name is Sam Worthington. He plays the role of a marine soldier Jake Sully. Jake takes part in an experiment and turns into a native being. The action happens on the Planet Pandora. It’s a beautiful exciting place with wonderful nature and unusual native beings called the Navi. Jake wants to find the mines with exclusive minerals. He meets Neytiri (actress Zoe Saldana), one of Navi humanoids. In my opinion, the actors and the acting are brilliant. I recommend this film to everyone. It is a wonderful, unusual, actual story which helps to appreciate important things in our life because our real world is angry and cruel.

I decided to dedicate my review to my favorite film “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.” This movie is based on the novel of J. K. Rolling. This is the first part of the book series about the adventures of young wizard Harry Potter. The film was shot by a famous American director Chris Columbus, known for such masterpieces as the comedy “Home Alone.” “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” – is only the first part of a great story. But here for first time we see the main characters, learn their nature and characteristics. The film drags at once thanks to the excellent plot and beautiful scenery. Director with the help of computer graphics could show amazing creatures – goblins, dragons, trolls. The film is impregnated with an unforgettable atmosphere that prevailed in the book.
The story is about the boy Harry. He lives with his uncle and aunt, who don’t love him. They harassed him every way, but he doesn’t have another variants. His parents died in a car accident and he is an orphan. But on his 11th birthday, he learns that he is the magician and is invited to study at Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Hagrid,(who delivered the letter) explains to the young wizard the cause of the scar on his forehead and the real circumstances of the death of his parents. They were killed by the evil wizard VoldeMort. Harry learns that he was also cursed by the evil wizard, but miraculously survived. After buying (with the help of Hagrid) everything necessary, Potter goes to magic school. There he finds his true friends, learn magic and goes through various adventures. Despite of the fact that the school seems to be all quiet, after arrival of Harry odd things concerned with VoldeMort start to happen. Over time, Harry learns about his devious plan to steal the Philosopher’s Stone, which gives immortality. The young wizard is eager to stop him. With the help of his friends, he manages to break the plans of VoldeMort.
The film, on the background of a magical atmosphere, talks about simple things and values, which in fact is often neglected. He teaches kindness, honesty, loyalty and true friendship. Great music and great acting, of course, complete the dynamic plot. Director created a fairy tale can please all the ages.

One of my favourite pastimes, the one I have a particular liking for is going to the cinema.
Among different types of movies (like comedies, romantic dramas, adventures, police dramas or detective movies, psychological thrillers, horror movies or historical films) best of all I like detective movies and romantic dramas because most of such movies are interesting and full of life to me. But I also like good horror movies and I find them quite thrilling since my childhood.But now I’d like to tell you about the movie that I find most pleasant to watch. It’s called “What Dreams May Come”. It is a 1998 American fantasy drama, starring Robin Williams. The film is based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Richard Matheson and was directed by Vincent Ward.
It’s a beautiful story about a married couple. Chris (Robin Williams) and Annie (Annabella Sciorra) play husband and wife. They met by chance and fell in love immediately. They have two wonderful kids and a marriage full of love and life. But tragically, one day their kids are taken from them in a car accident. They hold on to their lives and fight the sorrow, but one day, four years later, Chris"s life is also taken. He ends up in Heaven, but can"t accept his fate. A guide is sent to him, in the form of his friend Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.). Albert leads Chris on a journey through Heaven. In the real world, Annie can"t handle Chris"s death, and she kills herself and ends up in Hell. Chris must go on a journey to find her, and save her from an eternity of suffering.This movie hits all the right chords. It makes you laugh and cry at times. The love Chris has for Annie is stronger than anything you have ever seen. He"s willing to lose his mind, and spend all eternity in Hell with her, with neither of them recognizing the other because they are soul mates, destined to be together for all the time. This movie is hard to explain in any other way. The journey Chris goes through is remarkable, but the real star of this film is the visuals.
From the opening shot to the closing frame, it is magnificent. The story is enveloping encompassing nearly every asset of human emotion. It"s a roller-coaster ride but rewarding. Comedy, hope, sadness, joy, elation, despair... all displayed perfectly.It’s a story about everlasting love and dreams that always come true.

One of my favourite films is “The pianist”. It is directed by Roman Polanski who was born in a Jewish family in Paris before World War II. Polanski is considered to be one of the best film makers of the post-war time.
Having survived in the Krakow Ghetto and having been persecuted with millions of other Jews, Polanski introduced the terror of those times in “The pianist”. The film is based on a biography of Wladyslaw Szpilman who was the most outstanding Polish pianist of that time.
The main character (played by Adrien Brody) works and composes until the Nazi invade Poland. From that day the life of all Jewish people changes. They are forced into the Warsaw ghetto. Jews are not allowed to work, they are being humiliated.
The young pianist and his family are transported to Treblinka extermination camp soon. After some time Wladyslaw manages to escape with the help of his friend. After that his life becomes unpredictable. He has to move from place to place meeting death everywhere.
Some people help famous musician, others want to betray him. Fortunately, Wladislaw always finds someone who helps him to survive. He has a close call several times and the last one who saves him is one of the Nazi. He supplies the pianist with food and gives Wladislaw a chance to live.
“The Pianist” is a very touching, thought provoking dramatic film. It shows us that all people always have a choice: a choice to be good or bad, a choice to change their life and to sacrifice it. The film also reminds us of the terror that existed then in order to prevent its repetition in the future.

Это первая часть книжной серии, рассказывающей о приключениях юного волшебника Гарри Поттера. Фильм снял известный американский режиссер Крис Коламбус, известный благодаря таким шедеврам комедии как «Один дома». «Гарри Поттер и Философский камень» - это только первая часть великолепной истории, но именно в ней мы знакомимся с главными героями, узнаем их характер и особенности. Фильм сразу увлекает благодаря отличному сюжету и прекрасным декорациям. Режиссер с помощью компьютерной графики смог показать удивительных созданий – гоблинов, драконов, троллей. Фильм получился очень добрым, он пропитан той незабываемой атмосферой, которая царила в книге.Сюжет рассказывает про мальчика Гарри, живущего вместе с дядей и тётей, которые его абсолютно не любят. Они всячески его притесняют, но выхода у него нет. Его родители погибли в автокатастрофе и он остался сиротой.
